With ISE, you can use a standard command that triggers the drive to discard its hidden internal media encryption key, to self-generate a new, unrelated key, and then to start using the new key with its internal encryption/decryption engine. When retiring or repurposing a system or array the next-generation PowerEdge servers can help you to permanently erase content (optionally) from HDDs or SDDs. ISE is known as instant erase, instant scramble erase, instant secure erase or crypto erase. In addition to digitally signed firmware, ISE is a new cryptographic feature for HDD and SSD that is standard within the next-generation of PowerEdge.

All firmware for critical components (BIOS, iDRAC,NICs, HBAs, RAID, CPLD, storage drives, PSUs, etc.) is validated using cryptographic signatures to ensure that only authentic firmware is running in the server. PowerEdge next-generation servers offer a Cyber Resilient Architecture to help safely protect your data through your server lifecycle. Due to restrictions on use, these drives are available in a small number of systems and configurations. Entry Drives: Least expensive drives used in applications where low usage and limited total number of drives are applicable.7.2K SAS & SATA Hard Drives: High capacity and exceptional $/GB for capacity optimized applications.10K & 15K SAS Hard Drives: Performance and availability for performance optimized applications.Solid State SAS and SATA Drives: Fast storage medium for random IO.Hard Disk Drives and Solid State Drives come in several varieties designed to address a wide range of customer requirements. The DUP process translates to less downtime due to firmware maintenance updates.

PS:, I didn't have to do anything other than what I've communicated above no align software or anything else.Dell puts its enterprise hard drive (HDD) and solid state drive (SSD) offerings through a rigorous validation process before they are ever considered as additions to PowerEdge server portfolio. To the new Drive E:, it only took 8 minutes instead of the 24 that it took to move it away.

It works like a CHAMP! When I MOVED the folder back I went through the wizard, picked the other new WD drive as its partner in the mirros, left the sector size at Default, and WHS 2011 created the new Mirrored volume as Drive E. I then right clicked on one of them and picked, New Mirror I right clicked on one of the new WD drives and initalized them. I used RDC to access Disk Management from the Server Manager application. Two new drives that needed to be inialitized. When the server came back up, it recognized that I had I shutdown the server, removed the two data drives, installed the two new WD drives and rebooted. One important note is that it took 24 mintues to move a folder that had 43 GB of data on it.

New drives arrived in the mail so I went through moving the data off the drives onto another server drive, (a third data drive that would stay in the server), and then removing all of the folders on the drives that would be replaced with the new WD drives. Both of the drives that were going to be removed had 512 byte sectors. One of the drives was beginning to have sector problems so I broke the mirror and ordered the new drives. I had two data drives in my WHS 2011 in a mirrored volume. Since my original post, I purchased two new Western Digital WD2002FAEX drives, (2TB in size). With respect, the two links you provided were old and out of date and not focused on WHS 2011.
